Girls Middle School Spring 2013 Lacrosse

Picture
April 5, 2013

Coach Jaacki has worked out the details on having a youth girls travel lacrosse team for this spring - this will be separate from the youth lacrosse in Des Moines this summer. Please let her know ASAP if you/your daughter can play.
Here are the details:
  • Who can play: GIRLS in 5th-8th GRADE (We will play 7 v 7 so we definitely have enough interest to make this happen)
  • COST: $25 US LACROSSE DUES/MEMBERSHIP
  • GAMES: April 28 and May 19 at CREIGHTON PREP HIGH SCHOOL in Omaha.
  • REQUIRED EQUIPMENT: Girls Lacrosse Stick, Girls Lacrosse Goggles, Mouthguard (can not be clear or white).
  • PRACTICES: Will be decided based on number of girls and their locations in Des Moines. We have goals at Waukee High School so this would be a convenient location, but not required.
  • UNIFORMS: No uniforms are needed - all the girls can wear the same color t-shirt and coaches will track penalaties. IF a parent wants to organize a tshirt/jersey order, they can do that.
Contact Coach Jaacki for more information and to sign up.

Middle School Spring Lacrosse - Boys

Picture
February 26, 2013
The Valley Tigers Lacrosse Club, in association with the Walnut Creek YMCA and the Central Iowa Lacrosse Association, is proud to offer the first competitive middle school lacrosse team in the state of Iowa!  The new team, which will share the Tigers' identity, is open to boys in grades 6-8 regardless of school district.  The MS Tigers will compete in the Omaha Youth Lacrosse League.

Practices will be held twice a week at the Jordan Creek Elementary fields beginning the week of March 18 from 5:00-7:00 pm.  The MS team will practice alongside the JV and varsity teams.  We expect all players to attend all practices, but understand that scholastic conflicts do occur.  Please notify the coaching staff in advance if you will be missing practice and why.

Games will be held in Omaha on Sundays beginning April 7 through June 2.  There will also be games on June 1.  The practice and game schedules, as well as the roster and important information will be posted on this website.

This season's total dues will be $150.  Below you will find a breakdown with links to the appropriate registration websites.
  1. League Registration $75: Omahalacrosseclub.com (see instructions below)
  2. US Lacrosse Youth Membership $25: US Lacrosse Membership
  3. Team dues $50: Payable to the Walnut Creek YMCA, attached to the Y registration form.

All three of the above items are required to participate.  The YMCA registration form is also available at the Walnut Creek YMCA and may be turned there (attention: Phil Simmons). All three items need to be completed by March 1; please notify us if there any issues.  US Lacrosse memberships need to be valid through June 5, 2013.

Every player will receive a Valley lacrosse reversible jersey to be worn throughout the season.  Team shorts and shooter shirts will also be available for purchase during registration, but are not required.  These are the same custom items worn by the high school JV and varsity teams.
  • Valley Lacrosse Shorts $35
  • Valley Lacrosse Shooter Shirt $25

We ask that players choosing not to purchase the Valley lacrosse shorts wear black shorts on game days.  We would prefer that players that do not purchase the Valley shooter shirt wear black, white, or athletic gray undershirts on game days.

One last note: Since the middle school team is new this year, we are in need of parent volunteers.  Our biggest need is a parent general manager.  Dirk Arends fills this role for the high school team.  Essentially it involves coordinating rides/carpools to games and ensuring all of the parents are in the loop.  We may also need parents to help with the score table on game days.  There are also opportunities for parents to assist with practices and on the sidelines.  Please let us know if you are interested in helping in any capacity.

Please do not hesitate to contact Coach Adam with questions.  If you are not receiving the email communications, please let us know.

Winter Lacrosse Clinic

Picture
December 3, 2012 9:30 AM
Registration is now closed.  We are unable to add more participants at this time.

November 19, 2012
With the 2012 Box Lacrosse League taking its midseason break over the holidays, a new opportunity has presented itself to the young laxers in Des Moines.  For the first time ever, the Central Iowa Lacrosse Association will hold an indoor clinic for boys and girls in grades 3-9.
This clinic will focus on developing stick skills including cradling, passing, scooping, and shooting.  We will incorporate drills and mini-games in our instruction.  This will be a non-contact clinic and will not be using pads or helmets.  The Central Iowa Lacrosse Association will provide the balls, goals, and instructors, but players will need to bring their own sticks.  We will have boys sticks available to rent for $5.00 during the registration process; we will not have surplus rental sticks on hand on clinic nights.  Lacrosse gloves are allowed for those that have their own; we will not be renting them.
Registration will be open through Sunday, December 2.  This is a firm date to allow plenty of time to order t-shirts and additional balls.  Refunds cannot be given after December 2.  It is recommended that anyone registering by mail should submit their form and payment by November 28, 2012 to allow delivery; contacting the Central Iowa Lacrosse Association is also recommended.
All players will need a waiver/registration form signed by a parent/guardian.  The form is available for download here.  Forms may be mailed or turned in on the day of the clinic and are required for participation.  The mailing address is included on this form.
Registration payments can be made via PayPal or mailed with a check.  Payments and registrations will not be accepted after December 2, 2012.  Be sure to include the player's name when selecting his/her shirt size.

Heat Cancellation Tonight 7/23

July 23, 2012
Due to the extreme heat and extended warning going through 9:00 pm, the YMCA's safety guidelines require that we cancel tonight's lacrosse.

July 19 Cancellation

July 20, 2012
I apologize for cancelling last night's games on such short notice.  There was a medical emergency involving my 11-month-old that prevented me from being able to get the facility and goal keys to another CILA representative.

I realize that this was an inconvenience to some of you and I sincerely apologize.

Notice: Girls Lacrosse

July 17, 2012

The girls program has fallen victim to the attendance bug.  Coach Jaacki is making due with what she has, but various conflicts have hurt the numbers recently. To help counteract this, the girls official start time has been moved from 6:00 to 6:30.  Players are still welcome to arrive early and throw around.

All currently registered girls are expected/encouraged to attend not only for their own development, but for the development of everybody else as well.

Current News & Information

June 26, 2012

We plan to have the youth games as scheduled this Thursday, June 28.  The forecast looks less than ideal, so please send water with your child.  We will have the jugs and cups on hand, but we want to make sure that the kids are properly hydrated.  Having their own water on the sideline is the easiest way to stay on top of the situation...

If we decide to cancel the games due to extreme heat or thunderstorms, I will update the website and Facebook page.

June 15, 2012

1. Be sure your child has all of his/her equipment before every practice and game.  This includes mouth guards and sticks for everybody.  Boys should have their helmets, gloves, shoulder pads, elbow pads, and appropriate footwear.  Protective cups are required for boys that want to play goalie and recommended for all boys.

2. We are considering holding a "Parents Clinic" in the near future.  One of our goals this summer is to get more parents involved with the sport.  If you have interest in learning more about the game, please let me know (include you child's name and team).

3. There are a few players who did not provide an email address.  If you could please pass this along to any other parents you know, we would greatly appreciate it!  Important information will also be posted on the Central Iowa Lacrosse Association Youth Lacrosse Facebook page.

4. Major League Lacrosse is currently underway, if you are looking for live lacrosse on TV.  A good number of the league's games are televised on CBS Sports Network (613 DirecTV, 171 Mediacom, 158 DISH), though a few are also on ESPN2.  The MLL is professional lacrosse and features the best lacrosse players in the world.  The full TV Schedule is available here.

Boys Lacrosse Registration Is Closed

June 8, 2012
Registration for the 2012 Youth Lacrosse Program is now closed for all boys, regardless of age group.  We are over capacity and cannot accommodate additional players at this time.  We apologize for the inconvenience.

Although we will not have another program of this magnitude this year, we will attempt to hold a new player clinic or two if there is enough demand.  We expect to offer the youth lacrosse program again next summer.

Girls registration will remain open until further notice.

Thank you, West Genesee!

Picture
May 3, 2012

I would like to thank Ted Glesener and Adam Higginbotham for inspiring the West Genesee, NY lacrosse community.  Glesener and Higginbotham organized an equipment drive this spring to benefit Denver City Lax in Colorado and the Central Iowa Lacrosse Association.

Thank to the efforts of these two gentlemen, as well as the generosity of the West Genesee lacrosse community, the Central Iowa Lacrosse Association will have enough equipment to supplement our currently gear for boys participating in the 2012 youth lacrosse program.  This equipment will be put to good use this summer, and beyond.  Future plans include utilizing this equipment for clinics around the state, as well as in future youth programs.
This equipment drive embodies the very spirit of the game and truly demonstrates why lacrosse is unique among team sports.
